Hi, you might have seen that the Community Agroforestry Team is developing a community growing area at the Trethomas Allotments, although this is taking place at Trethomas we want to make it clear that is it also for Graig Y Rhacca and Bedwas & Machen.
We will be holding regular sessions where you can learn about growing whilst growing produce that can be shared through the GYR Community Fridge. We will be able to support parents of children at GYR Primary in gaining skills so that they can help with the School growing and support the pupils and staff in the wonderful growing beds that exist at your Primary School.
You will not only learn about growing wonderful veggies but you can also enjoy a bit of a social with other members of the Community Growing Group, so why not come down and say Hello on the 24th April

Just a reminder that we are holding our school Eisteddfod on Monday so children are invited to wear Welsh costume to school that day (Welsh ladies' outfits, Welsh rugby player, Welsh miner etc.) Please ensure that children do not wear jeans to school, Welsh tops are to be worn with school trouser/skirts.
If your child does not have a Welsh outfit to wear, they can wear their uniform to school. Children can also wear a daffodil or leek on their school jumper.
On Friday at 10am, we will be holding a St.David's Day Showcase for parent/carers in the upper school hall. The Showcase will be an opportunity for us to share a few of the competitions/performances from our school Eisteddfod, again, pupils can wear Welsh costume to school on Friday too.

Items will be on sale during morning playtimes. Please send money to school in a purse, wallet or envelope with your child's name clearly labelled. Please ask your child to hand their money to the class teacher when they enter the class for morning register.

TheSchoolApp Calendar Reminders
We have added functionality to TheSchoolApp calendar tab that will allow app users to set individual reminders for any upcoming events.
By tapping on the small bell icon next to an event, users set a reminder that will be delivered via a mobile phone notification. The grey bell icon will change to blue and a temporary "Reminder set!" message will display in the app.
Timed events will send a notification 24 hours as well as 1 hour before the event start. All-day events will send one notification at 9 am the day before.
Individual reminders can be turned off by simply tapping the blue bell icon next to the event again. The blue bell icon will change to grey and a temporary "Reminder removed!" message will display in the app.

As you are aware, we are a Healthy School and it is very important that our pupils eat a healthy packed lunch. We encourage our pupils to eat healthy snacks during their morning breaktime and pupils who eat from our school kitchens have a nutritionally balanced and tasty lunch.
Please ensure that if you are providing your child with a packed lunch that it contains healthy items and not full of chocolate, crisps and cake. Our pupils should only be drinking water or milk in school, so please do not send in fizzy drinks or flavoured water.
