The consultation period for Welsh Government’s ‘Healthy Weight: Healthy Wales’ is open until Friday 12th April 2019.

At the launch in Cardiff the challenges discussed were:
Obesity is likely to cost NHS Wales £465 million per year over the next 30 years;
Obesity can lead to poor mental wellbeing and reduced self-esteem in children;
Obesity reduces the risk of developing high blood pressure, type-2 diabetes, heart disease and stroke;
60% (6 in 10) adults in Wales are overweight or obese;
Obesity is the leading preventable cause of cancer after smoking;
Over a quarter of 4 – 5 year olds in Wales are overweight or obese;
Obesity is the highest cause of people living in poor health and one of the most preventable causes of premature death.
