UPDATE: 9th APRIL
Chester Zoo is opening its virtual gates again TOMORROW! Explore the wonders of wildlife by clicking this link below:
Also, I thought you’d be interested to know CCBC has just set up Facebook page to try and inspire, entertain, educate and brighten the lives of children and adults locked down at home.
Nature is waking up! Spring is unfurling and the nations on lock down! So what a great opportunity to discover and share what's happening in our gardens, yards, window boxes or even just out of the windows!
So why not get out and explore your very own patch. Grab your mobile phone, switch on the camera and start snapping away. We want to see your blooming buttercups, your basking butterflies, your beaky birds and your bonkers squirrels!
Post your pictures, observations, questions etc. to this site. We'll have experts on hand to help with answering your questions and identifying your wildlife pictures. We'll also have fun activities and tips of what you and your children can do to help nature share your home 'patch'.
Everyone one can join in from the very young to the very old and help bring some joy to for others to see as we escape into the wonder of nature. Click the link below:

This is a fantastic website based around Science experiments. Take a look at the 'videos' section (DO NOT TRY AT HOME), and comment on SeeSaw which experiment was your favourite.
BUT, if you do want to try an experiment at home, click on the 'experiments' section. If you do try out an experiment, please post a picture of it on your SeeSaw page so I can see. ALWAYS ask an adult to help you with any experiment you do.
I have uploaded a document that provides useful website links for home learning, along with some fun activities. Please use these to help you with the work pack.
Dear parents / guardians,
Due to school closure, the children should complete the work pack that was sent home. If the children would like to show me their work, please can they upload this on their SeeSaw account and I will provide feedback.
I will be updating the class SeeSaw page regularly for your child's home learning. On here, they will be set additional activities and tasks. Each child has been given a home sign in text code to access these tasks. There is a guide on how to use this code on SeeSaw. Please keep checking SeeSaw regularly as this will be the main way of communicating.
Your cooperation is appreciated. Thank you and stay safe.
Mathsbot is a free online website that your child can access at home. It enables them to revisit areas of Maths that they have been learning in class. I have uploaded a step-by-step guide on just one zone of Mathsbot. Please use this to guide you through the website.
Spring Term 2020
This term D6 pupils will be learning about Space and all its wonders. The children will become planet experts and we will be creating our own class space book. They will learn how rockets take off and return back to earth safely, along with how astronauts survive in space. We will be visited by an astronomer, who will teach and explain a bundle of fun facts about space and how it all works, and not forgetting some amazing practical experiments.
Using a cross curricular approach, in English we will be discussing whether travelling to space is a good idea. In Music, we will be learning and performing a planet rap and in Art the children will be making a 3D model of their favourite planet.
Keep checking the website for updates on the children's learning.
PE will take place on a Thursday, please ensure children have their PE kits in school with them on this day.
Fruit tuck is available and costs £1 per week.
Homework and reading books will be sent home on Thursdays, if your child needs extra support with this there is a homework club after school on a Thursday, they can attend this with an adult.
Year 6 Leavers' 'RockFest 2019'
Our Year 6 boys and girls had the most fantastic time at their leavers' 'RockFest 2019'. The parents created a mini festival to celebrate the children's time in Graig Y Rhacca Primary and Nursery Community School. At 'RockFest 2019' the children had fun on a rodeo bull, relaxed in tents, ate delicious food, listened to a live band and they even had a glitter tattoo or two!
Thank you to all the parents who made the festival possible, your hard work and support is greatly appreciated. Thank you also to all the parents, carers, grandparents and friends who sponsored our pupils to ensure they had a fun packed festival.
Well done to the boys and girls who represented our Year 6 Mini-Police squad at an assembly in Bedwas High School this morning. The Mini-Police shared with PC Madley their concerns regarding litter, vandalism, graffiti and anti-social behaviour within the community so we joined the assembly to ask all the pupils in KS3 to support and help our community work. Tnank you to PC Madley for all his help and support.
Please visit the Schoolbeat website for lots of important information for parents and pupils. The information and activities will support class work and also PC Madley's lessons.
This half term D6 will be learning about the First World War, you may have noticed the topic being discussed on the news with the centenary of the and of the War heading closer. The children will be learning about the impact that the war had on the World and the local area. They will be learning about life on the frontline in the trenches and life back at home.
They will also be performing Macbeth at Blacwood Miners Institute on Wednesday 14th November; the children have worked extremely hard to learn there parts. The audience are in for a treat, it will be an evening filled with drama and magic.
Keep checking the website for trip updates- we are in the process of scheduling exciting activities.
Spring term 1 - Welcome back

We are very lucky to being in collaboration with 'Keep Britain Tidy' and will be completing a projecting about surface flooding. We will tie this project into our topic of The Brecon Beacons and will be looking at flooding within the areas and how this can be prevented. We will also be looking at renewable energy and how this is used within the area.
The home school task for the spring term: To create an advertisement for renewable energy; this may be a poster, leaflet or song.
