Welcome back to school and for many in D4 it is a warm welcome to the Juniors for the first time.

In D4 this term, we will have the topic of ‘Change’. Please feel free to download the topic plan to see what the children have come up with as ideas to study.

In English, we will be developing our basic skills in writing before moving on to story writing. In Maths, we will start by looking at core number skills such as number bonds and place value. We are promoting 'Respect' throughout the half term.

Routines:

Homework, reading books and spellings will be given out each Thursday. This gives children a chance to check they understand the homework before the weekend. Homework is due to be returned on Monday whilst spellings and tables are tested on Thursdays. Often, the Maths homework will be in the form of online MyMaths homework. Each child has their login details provided on the inside cover of their homework book. The children also have their own access to Giglets online where there will be their own selection of allocated books to read.

Fruit-Tuck is collected each Monday and is 20p per day, although many bring £1 on a Monday to cover the week. A selection of apples, oranges, grapes and bananas is provided.

PE kit should be in school on a Friday this half term.

Homework is due to be returned on Monday whilst spellings and tables are tested on Thursdays. Included in homework is a spelling menu based on optional activities which should help your child learn high frequency words.

Each week your child will be given an online MyMaths homework task which can also be accessed in school if your child chooses to come to MyMaths club.

People of the World Thematic Showcase

The boys and girls in D4 shared with parents/carers the work they have completed during their Thematic Skills lessons when studying life in Africa. The boys and girls have made links with a school in Uganda and used the donations from the event to purchase books for their Ugandan friends. The parents enjoyed African biscuits baked by the children and took part in an Art activity to create an African mask. Parents also enjoyed an African dance display!  

America Day Celebrations

The pupils in D4 have been studying America during their Thematic lessons. The boys and girls have learnt about the key events in American history and why Americans celebrate Independence Day on the 4th July. The boys and girls performed a range of songs to a packed audience and they even showed everyone how to line dance!

All our guests were treated to American treats baked and created by all the boys and girls in the school to end the celebration.

Llantarnam Grange Art Lesson

D4 have enjoyed a fantastic day appreciating the artwork of Welsh artists and creating their own masterpieces. Thank you to our friends, Louise and Cerys for a wonderful art lesson.

Welcome back - Autumn Term (Second Half Term)

In D4 this half term we are studying The Victorians whilst in literacy we will be reading 'The Tin Forest' to stimulate our writing. In Maths we will be concentrating on mastering addition, subtraction and multiplication. We are promoting 'Respect' throughout the half term.

Routines:

Homework, reading books and spellings will be given out each Thursday. This gives children a chance to check they understand the homework before the weekend. Homework is due to be returned on Monday whilst spellings and tables are tested on Thursdays. Included in many children's homework is a list of individual high frequency spelling words which your child has spelled incorrectly in class. Please also learn these spellings as part of each week's homework.

In D4 this half term we are studying The Tudors whilst our literacy theme is The Circus.

We will be reading 'If I Ran the Circus' by Dr Seuss to stimulate our writing. We are promoting 'Respect' throughout the half term.
