Dear Parents, Carers and Children,

 

Mrs Hunt is returning from maternity leave on Monday so this has been my last week at Graig Y Rhacca. It has certainly been an unusual school year! It has been lovely to work with you all, both in person and remotely. I hope that you have a wonderful summer and are looking forward to returning to school, and your new classes, in September.

Welcome back! I hope that everyone had a relaxing half term and a chance to enjoy the great weather. Please find the link to the Home Learning Plan for this week below. There are weekly spellings and handwriting. We are looking at maps this week and continuing to follow White Rose Maths. All activities can be completed on Seesaw and you do not need to print any worksheets. The Home Learning Overview for this week is posted below. In Literacy we will be enjoying 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' by Michael Rosen. In Maths we will be using White Rose Maths as we do in school, and looking at number bonds and fact families. There will be 4 activities posted daily on Seesaw: a phonics game, a maths game, a literacy activity based on 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' and the White Rose maths for the day which will be a video lesson and some follow up work. Here is the overview for this week's work. This week we will be learning about nouns, verbs and adjectives in Literacy and looking at Length and Height in Maths. All activities on the overview are supported and supplemented by activities posted daily on Seesaw.

Year 1 Literacy

Week 1 - Monday April 20th to Friday April 24th

 

I hope that you all had a lovely Easter and are keeping safe and well.

The link for this week's Home Learning overview is below. It includes daily activities for Letters and Sounds, Literacy and Maths and weekly Spellings and Handwriting. 

Letters and Sounds - we are using BBC Bitesize Phonics. Daily sounds are suggested but please continue from where you are.

Maths - Follow the White Rose Maths lesson for your year group or try the activity or worksheets below. The lessons and activities should be done in order.

Literacy - the children should be familiar with the texts and activities. Choose what you would like to do and have fun!

Topic and Extension Activies - there are many suggested activities for you to try in maths, literacy, topic, creative and outdoors in the link below.

 

Extra support for the Literacy and Maths activities will be provided on Seesaw.

I will also be watching the new BBC Bitesize programme and suggesting linked learning opportunities.

D3 Easter Bonnet Challenge

 

  • Make an Easter Bonnet (hat, cap, anything that can be worn on your head).
  • Take a picture.
  • Upload it to your Seesaw Journal.

 

We can have a virtual parade and choose our favourites!  Certificates awarded!

 

Be resourceful. Use recycled materials; reuse and repurpose.

March 23rd to April 3rd 2020

You will have received a home learning pack for your child.Work should be completed on the sheets and paper provided. All work must be returned to school and will form part of the pupils’ classwork.

 

In the pack you will find:

 

Paper and pencil

Maths workbook

Science activity booklet

Craft activity (make a pinwheel)

Phonics booklet

Word activity booklet

Writing tasks – tick box when completed

Topic tasks – tick box when completed

Useful weblinks

 

Your child should be able to work independently on the phonics, maths and word activity booklets but may need initial help with reading instructions. Adult support will be required for the science and craft tasks.

 

Class pages on the school website will be updated on a regular basis with further activities.

Spring 2 2020

 

This half term our theme is 'Dinosaurs and all that rubbish' based on the book of the same name by Michael Foreman. We will be learning about the 3Rs - reduce, reuse and recycle - and what we can do to reduce waste.

Welcome back! I hope that everyone had a restful break.

 

We have hit the ground running in Dosbarth 3 with everyone keen to work hard.

 

Our theme this half term is 'Black Gold' in which we will be learning about the coal mining industry in Wales and the evidence of the industry around us today. If anyone has any information or first hand experience to share please let us know. We will be taking a trip to the Rhondda Heritage Park and taking part in their coal mining experience to learn more about what it was like down the pits.

 

Reading Books

Your child will bring home a reading book in their Homework Bag to share with you. Please listen to them read and write a comment in their reading log. It is VERY important that the book is returned to school on Monday in order that we can listen to them read and change their book.

Spring 1 2020 - Topic Overview - Black Gold

General Class Information

 

P.E -  Our P.E sessions are every THURSDAY. This will include shorts or jogging bottoms, a t-shirt and suitable, sports footwear, e.g. trainers or daps. PE kit can be kept in school and will be sent home at the end of each half term for washing.

 

Wet Weather - Children will need a pair of wellies to be kept in school in order for them to be able to take part in Forest School activities. 

 

Homework - Homework and reading books will be taken home every Thursday for return to school Monday morning.

 

Spellings - Spelling are sent home on a Friday and children will sit a speling test on Monday. 

 

Fruit Tuck - This is £1 a week and needs to be given to the child to bring into the class themselves.
