National Ambitions to Prevent & Reduce Obesity in Wales - have your say

The consultation period for Welsh Government’s ‘Healthy Weight: Healthy Wales’ is open until Friday 12th April 2019.

Please share the link with as many staff, parents, governors and members of the community as possible.

 

At the launch in Cardiff the challenges discussed were:

 

  • Obesity is likely to cost NHS Wales £465 million per year over the next 30 years;

  • Obesity can lead to poor mental wellbeing and reduced self-esteem in children;

  • Obesity reduces the risk of developing high blood pressure, type-2 diabetes, heart disease and stroke;

  • 60% (6 in 10) adults in Wales are overweight or obese;

  • Obesity is the leading preventable cause of cancer after smoking;

  • Over a quarter of 4 – 5 year olds in Wales are overweight or obese;

  • Obesity is the highest cause of people living in poor health and one of the most preventable causes of premature death.
