Police Dog Trials - Tredegar House, Newport
Our Mini Police were invited to attend the Police Dog Trials in Tredegar House to view the officers and their dogs. The Mini Police also had the chance to speak to the police officers and see their police horses too.
Easter Bonnet Parade
Well done to all the boys and girls who created 'eggcellent' Easter bonnets and hats for our Easter Parade. It was a joy to celebrate Easter with so many wonderful designs and creations! From all the governors, staff and pupils we would like to wish you all a very Happy Easter.
World Book Day Celebrations 2019
We had lots of fun celebrating World Book Day this year. The boys and girls (and staff!) enjoyed dressing as their favourite book characters, we also enjoyed lots of fun activities during the day including a visit from Clifford the Dog and also class book swaps. Well done to all the boys and girls who entered the World Book Day bookmark competition and to Scarlett for winning. All the pupils and staff took home a copy of the winning bookmark on World Book Day.
We all celebrated St. David's Day with a fantastic Eisteddfod where all the boys and girls shared their wonderful work. The morning was full of song, dance and celebration. Thank you to Mrs. Hunt and the boys and girls in Criw Cymraeg for organising and leading a wonderful Eisteddfod.
'Sparkle' Foundation Phase Christmas Performance
The boys and girls in D2 and D3 were amazing in their Christmas performance of 'Sparkle'. The children truly shone with their fantastic singing and performing skills. Thank you to all the parents who helped with the costumes, as you can see the children look wonderful.
We are having so much fun learning about different countries and cultures this week.
The boys and girls are 'travelling' around the World with their passports to visit each class which is hosting a specific country. The countries we are studying this week are India, Hawaii, Australia, Brazil and Kenya. The boys and girls are learning about the music, traditions, art, food and history of the selected countries. Our week will end with a Music Festival day where the boys and girls will have the opportunity to play instruments from a range of countries around the World and explore different World music.
We celebrated Harvest this year with wonderful class items including a fantastic Welsh song and a range of lovely poems. As part of our Harvest celebrations, we collected donations of food from staff, pupils and parents which will be sent to the Caerphilly Food Bank to support local families in need. We also displayed the wonderful produce harvested from our allotment. Mrs. Draper and the boys and girls in the Allotment Club harvested pumpkins, potatoes, onions and carrots and made two beautiful hampers which we raffled at the end of our Harvest Festival.
Graig-Y-Rhacca's Got Talent
So many fantastic boys and girls performed in 'Graig-Y-Rhacca's Got Talent' to show us their talents and interests. We enjoyed dancing, singing, amazing gymnastic skills, a perfect pianist and two girls even made us giggle with their brilliant jokes!
Thank you boys, girls and Mrs. Greenslade for a wonderful afternoon.
'Royal Bedding' Performance
Boys and girls from D6 performed their song to raise awareness of homelessness and to also raise funds for local homeless charities at the 'Royal Bedding' event on Saturday. The children's performance was amazing; they were even asked to perform again at the end of the evening! Well done boys and girls, you have made us all very proud.
The boys and girls also had the pleasure of singing along with Mrs. Otter and taking part in a drumming workshop.
Royal Wedding Celebrations
We have all day such a wonderful day celebrating the Royal Wedding with our street parties! We all dressed in red, white and blue and donated money to local homeless charities; we raised a fantastic £75! Pupils in D6 will be performing their homeless song in an event at the Machen British Legion Club tomorrow evening to raise awareness and funds for local homeless charities.
D3 also celebrated the special event by holding their own wedding ceremony which all the boys and girls carefully planned.
Our Community Tree
We wanted to make our community Christmas tree a special tree for us and our community to enjoy throughout the year. Our boys and girls are going to create seasonal decorations to add to the tree, these decorations will be hand made and will have a special meaning behind each one. If you are part of our community and you would like to make a decoration to add to the tree, please do. We are currently working on a Valentine theme tree, then we will create an Easter tree and a Summer tree.
We were thrilled to be a finalist in the Pride In Your Place Awards.
The evening awards ceremony took place on Monday, 5th February at Blackwood Miners' Institute. The ceremony was a wonderful celebration of the environmental work completed by many schools, organisations and volunteers within the authority. Our Allotment and Gardening groups were commended for their work to grow produce for pupils to use in class and also sell at our Summer Fete and the way in which the groups involved our parents, grandparents and community. Well done to Mrs. Draper, the boys and girls from the clubs and also the parents and grandparents who helped too. Thank you to Jake and Victoria for reprensenting our school at the awards.
