Things to Remember...
Homework - homework books and reading books will all be sent home on a Thursday. These need to be returned the following Monday.
Letters & Sounds / spellings will be tested weekly. New letters & Sounds / spellings will be sent home in Letters & Sounds books following testing. We aim to do this on a Monday. Please keep Letters & Sounds books home all week for daily practice and return on a Monday.
Fruit tuck money - 50p for the week is to be paid on Mondays please. This is to be sent straight into class with your child rather than via the school office.
PE kit - PE is usually on Wednesday afternoons but we incorporate physical activity acrss the curriculum in the Foundation Phase so please ensure your child has shorts, t'shirt, joggers and trainers in school all week. This only needs to be taken home to be washed at half term.
Outdoor kit - we are lucky to have use of extensive school grounds and use the outdoor environment alot. Please ensure your child has wellies in school all the time and outdoor clothing suitable for the weather conditions. This will ensure your child's school uniform is as protected as possible!
This half term our topic is
'Mud Pies, Dens & Wriggly Things!'
As our focus will be 'outdoors' all children will need to have wellies to keep in school. We will be out in the garden and the woods regularly so if your chhild does not have wellies in school they are likely to come home with muddy shoes and clothes!
We have a trip planned for Friday 27th April to Caerphilly Mountain View Ranch where we will be exploring the theme of dens and minibeasts.
Here are some of the questions and ideas we had on the topic:
We look forward to inviting you to school later in the term to have a go at some of our activities!
This half term our topic is
Through this term we will be learning all about our Welsh heritage in coal mining.
We started the topic off by talking about what we already know about coal and thinking of questions we would like to ask and find the answers to in order to form a 'topic web'.
Here is what we came up with:
Our literacy focus this half term is based on 'The Gingerbread Man'. We will be working towards retelling the story in our own words and will carry out lots of fun activities based on this classic traditional tale!
Next half term our topis is 'Fire, Fire!'
Through this topic we will be learning about the emergency services, beginning with a week dedicated to Bonfire Night.
The home-school task for half term is to create something that a fire fighter might use. This will be used in our Fire Station / Fire Engine role play area.
